Before I became an esthetician, I tried every store brand product out there because I was on a budget and I couldn’t afford the expensive products the professionals recommended to me. My logic was that they were WAY over priced for the exact same product! Nobody told to me the difference and why professional brands are more expensive.
So I am here to tell you why. First, you get what you pay for. Chemists are paid big bucks to create these products for a reason. You are spending more money on professional products because they have better, contain more active ingredients that have been tested and are scientifically proven to work. Store brand products have A LOT of fillers, preservatives and buffering agents in their products which they sell in bulk to keep the cost of the item down. Preservatives are also known as Parabens or “shelf life fillers” which make the product last longer in your bathroom cabinet, but they are not good for your skin. These fillers can also bring down the efficiency of the active ingredients.
Many people don’t realize how little the cosmetic industry is regulated. As long as there is some kind of twist of truth behind the marketing, then it’s ok by the FDA. For example, the OTC (over the counter) 2% salicylic acid medication may be just a marketing scheme to get you to purchase the product. In reality, there could be a drop of 2% salicylic acid in a full gallon of formula, making the 2% salicylic acid much less effective. But technically, since there is 2% salicylic acid in the original formula, they’re not lying about have it in the tube you purchased.
At Corrective Skincare, we have a chemist that formulates most of our products such as Benzoyl Peroxide, Glycolic Acid, Collagen Serum, and Therapeutic Mask, to name a few. I stand behind our chemist formulated products because I know they are *free from buffering agents and fillers* which makes them much more effective and stronger then what you can find over the counter. We also carry pharmaceutical brand products we trust to contain highly effective ingredients with authentic marketing.
